Lost Art and Top10
Have you read The
Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie
Barrows? It is one of my favorites. I have the book and the audiobook on my Kindle
(yeah, Kindle – not Fire, old school). It is written all in letters, as in
mail. That and C. S. Lewis' Letters to
Children, make me wish the art of letter writing would come back. It is
kind of pathetic that we converse with each other in little sound bites of
email, facebook and twitter. It takes
discipline and sacrifice to sit down and write (long-hand preferably) a letter
that is chatty, newsy and thoughtful, one that is worthy of a response from the recipient.
I admit I have written very few but think what a treasure trove it could be for
my grandchildren if I would just start. Ah, that’s always the hard part –
starting!
OK, so I'm a little slow. I didn't see the Day 2 Top 10 list, soooo here it is. My top10 Favorite books:
1. Watership Down
2. The Hobbit
3. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
4. Agatha Christie
5. Miss Read's Thrush Green and Fairacre Books
6. Goodbye Mr. Chips
7. The Crosswicks Journal (Madeliene L'Engle)
8. Anything by C. S. Lewis
9. The Good Earth
10. On the Beach
